  • Job Summary

    The Technical Service Director & Studio Engineer is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, maintenance, and backup of IT systems hardware, software, related infrastructure, and video/audio recording equipment, and all related systems. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that media and IT system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners.

    This individual will assist project teams and ministries with technical issues in the Initiation and Planning phases of our standard Project Management Methodology. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life-cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of ministry staff in executing, testing, and rolling-out the solutions


    This individual is accountable for the following systems: Windows, Mac, and Linux systems that support ministry infrastructure; Windows, Mac, Linux, and Application systems that support CRM and other ministry functions; Responsibilities on these systems include engineering and provisioning, operations, and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation.

    Authority as delegated by the VOP Director of Technology

     

    Assignments could shift temporarily or permanently, depending on business needs.

     

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Directs, prioritizes, and evaluates the work and work load of department personnel.
    • Develop and communicate goals and strategies for maintaining and improving the media and IT capabilities of VOP.
    • Work in conjunction with VOP manager and Director of Technology to develop budgets for each fiscal year.
    • Listen to the needs of VOP staff and management and develop proposals, processes, and policies that will improve the functioning of computer and media systems used at VOP.
    • Implementation, maintenance, and engineering of technology related solutions for various project and operational needs.
    • Coordinate and evaluate the work of consultants and contractors employed to work at VOP.
    • Attend and provide counsel to committees that serve the VOP as needed.
    • Responsible to oversee the maintenance of inventories of all computer and related devices and media related equipment.
    • Create and maintain technical documentation for the IT department and for users
    • Responsible for analyzing and forecasting the service life of IT assets, software and projects
    • Install new / repair existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
    • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
    • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
    • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
    • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies.  Investigate and troubleshoot issues.
    • Oversee and manage the office, studio, and warehouse equipment and any contracts for their use.

    Qualifications

    • Education:
      • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business or Management required from an accredited college or university.
    • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience within media production and computer systems and networks using current technologies, products and solutions.
    • Membership: Member in good standing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church abiding by its beliefs and values.

     

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Organized, detailed, and have the ability to meet deadlines with little supervision.
    • Self-motivated and able to take initiative for areas of responsibility.
    • Network or CCNA required. Security required. Comprehensive knowledge of Linux, Mac OS and Microsoft servers and networking technologies. Comprehensive knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies, including VMware, Hyper-V and S3.
    • Hardware experience with rack mount servers, switches, backup systems and UPSs. Working knowledge of VOIP systems. Comprehensive knowledge of Firewall systems and security.
    • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and evaluative skills.
    • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and technologies.
    • Proficiency with: Hyper-V virtualization platform (required), Microsoft Server 2019 and higher (ADS, LDAP, Exchange, IIS and user management), Linux server, (Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise based, Apache, IP Tables).
    • Knowledge of networking technology: LAN (Layer 2/3 switching), WAN (MPLS, RIP, BGP, OSPF), VPN (IPsec and SSL), VLAN segmentation, bandwidth management, backup and replication, Network security products: Antivirus, IDP/IDS, PCI Compliance practices.
    • Hardware proficiency in: SAN, NAS, NFS, SMB/AFP, iSCSI/FCA, Fortinet  or equivalent NextGen Firewalls, Routers, Cisco, Ubiquiti and HP Procurve Layer3 switches, wifi technologies.
    • Application software experience with: databases, spreadsheets, websites, word processors and browsers, scripting knowledge preferred.
    • Knowledge and ability to help departments plan projects with IT resources in mind, and bring projects to fruition.
    • Strong people skills necessary in providing advocacy for functions performed and to maintain high levels of communication with subordinates, users and superiors.
    • Project management skills to assist and lead with ministry and IT projects.
