    SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Program Assistant, Lake View Cafe Manager, Lake View Assistant, Program Aides, leaders, instructors and program volunteers

    GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

    To develop and implement a dynamic diversified program of recreational, educational, health and wellness, and social activities at the Senior Center to meet the needs, interests and abilities of older persons in the Wallingford community; to assume responsibilities as delegated by the Executive Director in his/her absence.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plans and conducts or oversees special and ongoing recreational, educational health and wellness, and social activities including classes, special interest groups, trips, special events and volunteer activities.
    • Recruits, trains and supervises paid and volunteer staff and contractual staff for program activities.
    • Oversees the Lake View Café operation and evaluates the LVC manager and assistants.
    • Oversees the Computer Learning Center operation.
    • Develops and monitors program account budget with line item control.
    • Oversees purchases and maintains records and storage of materials, supplies and equipment for programs and activities.
    • Coordinates registrations, fee collections, refunds and disbursements for program account activities.
    • Develops and implements fundraising activities to benefit the Program Account.
    • Develops collaborative partnerships with area agencies and organizations to enhance program opportunities.
    • Schedules space within the facility for meetings, programs and activities.
    • Promotes programs through monthly newsletter, media releases, flyers, posters, etc.
    • Prepares information for monthly newsletter.
    • Attends monthly Wallingford Committee on Aging, Inc. Board Meetings.
    • Attends monthly Member Advisory Council meetings.
    • Prepares written monthly report for Wallingford Committee on Aging, Inc. meetings and other progress or statistical reports as designated by the Executive Director.
    • Participates in staff meetings.
    • Maintains appropriate program records including group, class, and special event attendance and financial reports.
    • Advises Office Manager of housekeeping and program set-up needs.
    • Adheres to and enforces established Senior Center policies and procedures and assists with ongoing development.
    • Informs Executive Director of any and all problems within the program area.
    • Serves on community boards and committees planning services for seniors in coordination with the Executive Director.
    • Attends national and other conferences as approved by the Wallingford Committee on Aging, Inc.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Four-year college degree in recreation, humanities, arts or other pertinent area preferred, however, substantial demonstrated experience will be considered in lieu of degree. Valid Connecticut driver’s license and car necessary. Must possess outgoing personality and organizational skills. Demonstrates patience, sensitivity and sincere desire to work with older adults as part of a professional team. Ability to exhibit good leadership qualities and supervise paid and volunteer staff. Basic computer skills are required. Certification in standard Red Cross First Aid and CPR desired. A medical examination is required before employment begins.
