    The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) is accepting applications for an Instructional Media Production Manager. As part of the Instructional Media Resources (IMR) team, this role transcends traditional boundaries by capturing the essence of modern education where video production serves as a powerful conduit for knowledge dissemination, inclusive representation, and dynamic learning experiences. Through the efforts of the Instructional Media Production Manager, CITL (Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning) propels the University of Illinois towards a future where media becomes a catalyst for unity, accessibility, and unparalleled educational excellence. At the heart of this role lies an unwavering commitment to championing inclusivity and diversity throughout the entire spectrum of media production.

    Working closely with faculty, instructors, staff, and an array of stakeholders, the Instructional Media Production Manager leads a comprehensive strategy that seamlessly integrates media production with educational and research objectives, and coordinates multimedia elements that enrich the learning journey across various platforms. The Instructional Media Production Manager takes an innovative stance, orchestrating media production endeavors that break down barriers and empower every student, regardless of background or ability, to engage fully in the educational experience at the University of Illinois. In addition, striving to foster an environment of creativity and collaboration, the Instructional Media Production Manager develops and nurtures partnerships with campus media professionals. This dynamic synergy results in the design and development of shared media resources that resonate with, and celebrate, the diversity of faculty, staff, and students at the University of Illinois.

    Duties & Responsibilities


    Leadership, management, and inclusivity advocacy

    • Supervise a team of media producers and editors. Coordinate recruitment, hiring, training, schedules, meeting, and work tasks of team members.
    • Lead by example in fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment within the IMR Production team.
    • Manage, monitor, and forecast Production team projects with an emphasis on promoting inclusivity in media content.
    • Ensure that projects are completed on time and meet high pedagogical and production quality standards.
    • Implement and promote operational updates to Production team workflows and standard operating procedures.

    Instructional Media Design & Development

    • Work closely with faculty to help (re)design courses with a strong commitment to inclusivity. Advise faculty and instructional designers, offering creative suggestions for media assets and strategies that embrace diversity and representation.
    • Develop and produce pedagogically sound media content based on best practices for online learning.
    • Collaborate with instructors on storyboards and planning documents to facilitate effective integration of inclusive online learning content, learning management system, slides, and student assessment.
    • Work on and direct in-studio shoots and on-location shoots. Efficiently edit videos using the standardized IMR post-production processes.
    • Coordinate instructional media design projects from inception to completion, maintaining files and records, and ensuring appropriate branding and accessibility guidelines are met.
    • Work with faculty to create multimedia-based student assessments designed to be accessible and inclusive. Prepare learning aids to help students complete multimedia assessments in their courses.

    Teaching and Learning Media Support

    • Oversee the installation and continuous maintenance of CITL media studios.
    • Offer inclusive design, implementation, and post-production assistance for various media-related projects.
    • Monitor on-location video shoots and take proactive steps to improve processes and techniques.
    • Offer guidance to faculty in effective uses of multimedia to create inclusive learning environments that cater to diverse student needs and backgrounds, fostering an equitable learning experience.
    • Ensure media services and equipment are in top performance, with a focus on accessibility and usability for all individuals. Maintain a relationship with information technology partners to monitor and forecast adequate, network-based storage.
    • Respond to faculty and staff requests for media content, ensuring that diverse perspectives are considered and represented in the content created.
    • Monitor and track key course performance and student outcome metrics as they relate to instructional media. Analyze course evaluations and help make recommendations for changes to course design, content, and teaching strategies.

    Collaboration and training

    • Champion and facilitate collaboration between the Production team, instructional designers, information technology professionals, and other groups on campus to ensure that educational media follows instructional design principles that support diversity and inclusivity. • Provide real-world mentoring and training to production students.

    • Collaborate in the design, development, and delivery of workshops and training to faculty and staff.
    • Conduct research on instructional media best practices, inclusive design and media technologies which support teaching and learning.

    Position Qualifications

    Required

    • Bachelor’s degree in video production, cinema studies, or media-related field.
    • A total of four (4) years (48 months) in education, training and/or work experience in educational technology or media production with a commitment to diversity and inclusivity in media creation.
    • Demonstrated experience managing a media team.
    • Experience working in studio settings involving lighting design, working with green screens, and operating professional camera and sound equipment.
    • Experience with field production, including the use of portable lighting and sound equipment.

    Preferred

    • Master’s degree with a focus on inclusive educational practices.
    • Experience working in one or more learning management systems (LMS)

    Successful candidates will have the following,

    • Demonstrated proficiency using the Adobe Production Suite (specifically, Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects) to create diverse and inclusive media content.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as in a self-directed, proactive, and creative manner.
    • Understanding using Microsoft Office and project management software
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and productively.
    • Flexibility in scheduling, as events include evening and/or weekend work, with a commitment to accommodating diverse schedules and preferences.
    • Working knowledge of existing and emerging digital media technologies and applications for use in education.
    • Working knowledge of instructional principles as applied in media for higher education.
    • Valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally.

    Appointment Information

    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. Salary is commensurate with experience. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
