POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Public Media Relations & Corporate Communications will coordinate the day to day communications and public relations efforts, including developing, executing and managing a media relations program (both earned and paid), including pitch creation, media research, targeting, outreach, etc.

Bachelor’s degree required; BA in Communication/PR preferred

Valid Driver’s License

Advanced writing, editing, and oral communication skills.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 10 – 15 years of progressive experience in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field

5 years of experience managing a team and supervising staff

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

Handle digital, social, and internal communications, as well as media relations, issues management, publications, executive speechwriting, and content marketing.

Plan and execute a broad range of strategic communications to promote the Hospital’s mission, values, and priorities to relevant stakeholders.

Develop and define key messages and ensure clear and consistent delivery.
-
Be the communications advisor, overseeing communications strategy, crisis communications, public statements, and the preparation of remarks and other materials for public appearances.

Oversee internal communications that hospital’s senior leadership teams and task forces.
-
Act as a spokesperson to/with media.
-
Oversee proactive media relations strategies that raise the visibility of hospital priorities and research, education, and service programs.
-
Lead the Hospital’s response to complicated issues, working closely with senior leaders on media messaging.
-
Protect and elevate the brand.
-
Guide the editorial team in setting the overarching vision and content direction while ensuring continued high quality and accuracy.
-
Drive the development of compelling and effective digital communications resulting in a vibrant and responsive range of online channels that support key program objectives and initiatives.

Foster and strengthen collaborative relationships with colleagues and departments, centers, institutes, and offices.
-
Represent the Hospital at meetings of public information officers.
-
Create and edit Year in Review (annual project) with VP and Administration.
-
Make recommendations to the Vice President in the development and implementation of an annual communications plan for Association activities, including media plans for special events, industry observations and related promotions.

Develop and execute public relations and PR programming for all organization efforts.
-
Write and distribute press releases, opinion-editorial columns, bios, media statements, quotes and related content for internal and external use (print and online media, digital media, etc.).

Research DHR Health issues and create talking points and/or one-pagers.
-
Establish and maintain a network of media members.
-
Serve as primary contact for all members of the media; field reporter questions and coordinate interviews with DHR Health Leadership and other appropriate staff and/or Board members, as necessary.

Coordinate media activity at DHR Health events.
-
Establish and maintain multiple relationships ranging from trade, business, national, state and local outlets.
-
Provide strategic and tactical input that helps achieve mission and/or annual goals.
-
Assist in implementing a proactive media strategy that tells the Hospital’s story, with special focus on DHR-led efforts and projects and the impact of that work on communities and the state, as well as projects and/or crisis situations as needed through traditional and social media channels as well.

Create a pitch calendar, pitch positive hospital stories and stories on important DHR Health issues to news media and track media mentions.

Work with the senior vice president of government affairs and vice president of marketing and communications to support communications activity relevant to legislative priorities.

Assist the VP in developing communications, outreach and advocacy campaigns for special projects and initiatives.
-
Develop framework for review and approval of Association media communications for consistency in messaging, presentation and adherence to style and publication guidelines.

Coordinate advertising and PR efforts, such as TV appearances and advertorials.
-
Assist the VP with creation and distribution of a monthly Hospital Communications group newsletter.
-
Ensure talking points and other materials are distributed to Physicians, Administration and other groups as needed.

Work with the VP to create pre- and post-DHR board meeting communications to be sent out.

Draft summaries for awards and schedule Awards Committee meetings and create and print meeting materials.
-
Maintain Emma distribution lists and handle Emma emails.
-
Using approved social media calendar, create posts and share them on DHR Health social media pages.
-
Engage with members on social media daily. • Draft scripts for DHR videos and vlogs.
-
Must be available in the office during regular office hours unless job responsibilities require otherwise.

Must be available for out of town travel, including overnight, be able to drive an automobile and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Internal Communications
-
Work with the VP to plan and execute the monthly meeting for associate management, administrative, internal services and member services staff.
-
Create content for internal staff updates and distribute to staff.
-
Create and maintain a quarterly DHR website content review and update process with internal department content owners.
