Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e., pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), and records or inputs information to patients' medical records. Being a Medical Assistant prepares treatment rooms for the examination of patients. May draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis. Additionally, Medical Assistant may perform administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering the phone, and scheduling appointments. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RCA) certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Medical Assistant works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Medical Assistant typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

Required Qualifications: High school education or equivalent required. Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program required. Demonstrate effective communication skills required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later). If required to administer medications, current Medication Aid Registry listing or completed within first 30 days of hire or transfer date, and maintained thereafter required. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a physician's office preferred. Experience in a related area preferred. Ability to be bilingual in English and Spanish for working in certain clinics preferred. Medical assistant certification preferred. Medical Scribe experience preferred.
