Registers patients and/or responsible party in a timely and efficient manner. Obtains required admission information such as patient insurance/ financial information, demographics and ensures that an accurate medical record is created. Promotes accurate billing information and indentifies fraudulent use of insurance or patient identification.

Obtains signatures for treatment, release of information, statement of permit to direct payment and release of responsibility from the patient after a brief explanation of the same. Witness’s patients consent. (If an emergency situation exists or signature is unobtainable – documents circumstances, initials and dates. If applicable, leaves in designated area for next shift to obtain consent.)

For all admissions explains and obtains signatures for any and/or all of the following as appropriate: *Consent for Treatment *Important Message from Medicare *Notice of Inpatient Admission *Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice Obtains DPOA information, distributes DPOA information & 5 Wishes booklets to all admits.

Adheres to core competencies, including: Performs job functions in a safe manner, dresses appropriately, wears identification while on duty, takes appropriate measures to ensure compliance with Universal precaution standards, maintains confidentiality at all times, demonstrates accountability by regular attendance, avoids unscheduled absences including tardiness and early leaves, completes annual education competencies, in-service and mandatory meeting requirements.Scans patient photo identification, insurance cards, and consent forms into medical record.

Answers switchboard promptly in a courteous and professional manner and handles inquires, transferring and paging staff. Pages all codes and drills as appropriate

Verbally asks all Medicare patients the Medicare Secondary Payor Questionnaire during every outpatient registration. Accurately answers all questions, obtains requested dates and brief explanations when applicable.

Maintains organized inventory of supplies and equipment for necessary efficient operations of Patient Access Services. Prioritizes and completes assignments in an organized and efficient manner to complete tasks within a scheduled shift. Completes in a timely manner all clerical duties related to Admissions/Transfers/Discharges. Completes reports and other duties as assigned by the Patient Access Manager for this position. Uses idle time productively and seeks out work when other tasks are complete.

Actively collects payments, co-pays and deductible amounts, completes receipts for all monies collected, including the GL # when applicable, balances cash and records cash drawer at appropriate times and adheres to standard opening and closing procedure regarding the safe.
