Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the preparation of medical bills and invoices, the calculation of provider charges, and verification of patient insurance. Maintains insurance documents and contracts. Being a Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the submission of claim reports and filing procedures. Ensures billing operations are performed in an accurate and timely manner. Additionally, Medical Billing Supervisor evaluates billing processes and procedures and assists management in developing revisions. Monitors the revenue cycle activities and resolves any issues. GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs routine clerical and complex administrative duties, data processing, and cash handling work in the billing of utility services.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Exercises supervision of Billing Clerk.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the City Clerk.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
· Enters all information to complete billing process and computes amounts due.
· Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow.
· Oversee balanced cash drawers including the receipt of payments and disbursement of change.
· Posts transactions to accounting records such as Excel, General Ledger, and billing software.
· Processes work orders for utility disconnections, reconnections, new connections, ACH information, pool and leak adjustments as well as new water and sewer tap fees.
· Assist Water Technician with managing and solving problems such as meter irregularities, damaged equipment, and impediments to meter access.
· Verify meter readings in cases where consumption appears to be abnormal, and record possible reason for fluctuations
· Prepare and transfer monthly meter reading files to billing software; conduct monthly download of billing file to meter reading software.
· Knowledge and compliance of city ordinances relating to utility services.
· Receives telephone calls and citizen visits concerning utility billings or services; handles questions and matters of a more technical nature; responds to citizen complaints.
· Prepares and gathers reports for other agencies including auditor, MS Dept. of Health.
· Pursues collection of delinquent utility accounts, including preparation and mailing of final notices, shut-off and turn-on orders, establishing and monitoring payment schedules, customer follow-up account research, preparing adjustments and bad debts, appearing in court to testify on behalf of City, when appropriate.
· Provides excellent customer service.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Serves as a member of various employee committees.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
· REQUIRED: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent.
· REQUIRED: Minimum 2 years of related experience that includes customer service and cash handling duties.
· PREFERRED: Equivalent experience in Tyler Utility Billing and Aclara Meter Reading software or other municipal service.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Working knowledge of computers and electronic data processing; working knowledge modern office practices and procedures.
· Skill in operating listed tools and equipment.
· Ability to perform arithmetic computations accurately and quickly; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish successful working relationships; ability to work under pressure and/or frequent interruptions; ability to work with angry and difficult customers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to be bonded is a requirement, due to handling of money.
