Position Summary

The role of the Pharmacy Billing Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy. This position is responsible for the accurate and timely adjudication of unbilled pharmacy charges.

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Review documentation for use and wastage, updating modifiers and charges per billing guidelines, and correcting/modifying charges.
• Ensure the accuracy and timely adjudication of billing edits, charge capture entry and modification functions by performing the following:

• Identify and resolve billing edits or changes.
• Perform timely reviews of patient accounts and remittances for denials to determine root cause and appropriateness, as well as assist with development of and lead corrective action plans.
• Analyze and resolve claims denials and unbilled claims, including posting debits and credits to patient accounts.
• Facilitate selection of patient encounters for review prior to and after patient billing for purposes of performing audits and verification of billing compliance.
• Perform analysis and provide reports to determine trends, compliant billing, impact to net revenue, and other analytical requests pertaining to revenue cycle.
• Remain knowledgeable of Medicare, Medicaid and third-party payer guidelines.
• Works in concert with Revenue Management Team members and Revenue Integrity team at the hospital to ensure timely gathering and reporting of applicable data.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required
• Licensure and Certifications: Pharmacy Technician license required.
• Experience: Experience in healthcare billing environment (pharmacy preferred), including billing edits, charge capture and charge reconciliation. Knowledge of pharmacy HCPCS, NDC and billable units. Experience with Medicare billing and coding guidelines, preferred. Familiar with electronic health records and revenue cycle management systems. Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel required. Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to prioritize and meet pre-determined deadlines. Must be able to effectively multi-task, be proficient at typing, and have advanced technical skills.

Work Environment: This position will spend 90% of work time sitting while performing frequent repetitive motions such as picking up a telephone, typing, and speaking for the duration of their scheduled shift. This position will spend 10% of work time standing and/or walking short distances while occasionally pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs.
