Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the preparation of medical bills and invoices, the calculation of provider charges, and verification of patient insurance. Maintains insurance documents and contracts. Being a Medical Billing Supervisor oversees the submission of claim reports and filing procedures. Ensures billing operations are performed in an accurate and timely manner. Additionally, Medical Billing Supervisor evaluates billing processes and procedures and assists management in developing revisions. Monitors the revenue cycle activities and resolves any issues. Needs to be familiar with ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS Coding Systems as well as claim forms such as CMS-1500 and UB-04. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Billing Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision.     Education:
    High school graduate or equivalent required. Associate or other Degree desired

    License:
    N/A

    Certification:
    American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) preferred. If certified, must complete all requirements (including continuing education) to maintain certification.

    Experience:
    At least 5 years’ experience in physician billing, the ability to work independently, and the ability to make management level decisions. Coding experience and working knowledge of the AHA Coding Clinic preferred. Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of hospital personnel. Organization and prioritization skills. Effective written and verbal communications skills. Analytical skills. Proficient computer skills.

    Physical Demands:
    Must be able to see, hear and speak well as normal physical requirements apply. Occasional travel between facilities, as well as to attend seminars and workshops as warranted
    Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the office, move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves using repetitive motions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands and/or fingers while operating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard copier and 10-key.
    Work involves being able to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or without correction; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requires close visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor to forms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.

    Mental Demands:
    Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have strong analytical and interpersonal skills.     Special Demands:
    Job duties require employee to travel throughout the SRHS service area; therefore, a valid driver license and liability insurance of personal vehicle used in carrying out these responsibilities are required. Must have a complete understanding of IP and OP coding.
    Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.). Must have advanced knowledge and skill in using MS Excel. Must have working knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
    Job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area – with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Must have a valid driver license.
    Work requires the ability to function independently, adapt to workload demands, set priorities, and understand and set goals. Must possess highly developed organizational, planning and management writing skills. Must understand the fundamentals of automated data processing, and be able to gain a detailed understanding of complex computerized and non-computerized information within allotted timeframe.
    Must have working knowledge of the AHA Inpatient and Outpatient Coding.
