Medical Device Lab Technician works in a laboratory setting, producing medical devices such as prosthetics or orthotics, implants, or other devices. Configures and constructs devices to specifications established by a physician or other health care provider. Being a Medical Device Lab Technician utilizes tools and precision instruments to result in customized fit, optimal function, and maximum comfort for the patient. Disassembles, repairs, and reassembles defective or worn devices or appliances. Additionally, Medical Device Lab Technician works closely with the Orthotist or Prosthetist. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Device Lab Technician works under moderate supervision. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The incumbent in this position will provide the services meeting the goals of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Clinical laboratory personnel, as members of the health care delivery team, are responsible for assuring reliable and accurate laboratory test results which contribute to the diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and prevention of physiological and pathological conditions in humans. Quality clinical laboratory testing is evidenced by: performing the correct test, on the right person, at the right time, producing accurate test results, with the best outcome, in the most cost-effective manner.

Education.
An Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or related sciences. National certification preferable.
Experience.
One year clinical lab experience or attendance at a school of Medical Technology
Interrelationships.
Interacts with physicians, nurses, infection control, infectious disease, practitioners, other hospital employees, volunteers and students, as well as patients of all ages-new born through geriatric.
