Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Salary: $24,060 base salary, $133.67 per day (based on education and
previous experience)

Available: 2019 - 2020 School Year
Qualifications: Must be able to use sign language efficiently
AND
Minimum of sixty (60) academic credit hours from an accredited institution of higher
education or An associate degree (or higher)
AND
Ready to Work Credentials
* WIN - Copy of WIN Assessment – minimum of Silver: Level 4 or higher
or
* Work Keys - Copy of passing scores on three areas of Work Keys
Assessment—Applied Mathematics (4), Reading for
Information (4), Writing (4)
or
ParaPro - Copy of passing score (minimum 456) on ParaPro, the state approved
academic assessment
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate
and acceptable
