Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Summary: Provide interpreting services for Spanish speaking patients as requested for CaroMont Regional Medical Center, its outpatient departments (onsite and offsite facilities), CaroMont Endoscopy
Center and CaroMont Specialty Surgery. Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: interpreting services for departments within CaroMont Health as needed and translate documents into Spanish as requested.
Qualifications: CaroMont Interpreters will possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be fluent in Spanish. Interpreter will need to successfully pass in all areas n Interpreter skills competency assessment in medical interpretation within three months of hire and annually. This position requires someone who can deal tactfully via telephone and in person with Spanish speaking patients, hospital employees and interpreting vendors. This indivisual will need to use their personal vehicle between offsite facilities and CaroMont Regional Medical Center.
