Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Health Center manager, the Appointment Clerk/Interpreter performs a variety of task related to answering the telephone, scheduling appointments, mailing reminder letters, no-show letters and recall letters to patients. The Appointment Clerk/Interpreter demonstrates the ability to be a team member. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families and visitors of all age groups, while being sensitive to their culture and religious belief.
