Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. - Provide interpretation services between Spanish-speaking patients and healthcare providers
- Translate written documents, such as medical records and consent forms, from Spanish to English and vice versa
- Assist with documentation review and ensure accuracy of translated information
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations when handling sensitive patient information
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure effective communication and understanding
```Experience```
- Fluency in both Spanish and English languages
- Previous experience as a Spanish interpreter, preferably in a healthcare setting
- Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures
- Knowledge of child protective services and social work terminology is a plus
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
