Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Job Summary/Basic Function
    Interpreter for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in classroom and university settings.

    **This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.

    Required Qualifications
    Must have Level I or Level II State Interpreter Certification and/or national certification.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Workstudy preferred, but not required. If you are unsure if you are eligible for the Federal Work Study program, contact the Financial Aid office at 801-626-7569.

    Two years post-secondary education preferred, but not required.

    Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision.
    Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading., Required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services,) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection).
