Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Long Term Seasonal / Year-round, maximum annual hours not to exceed 1750 hours.
IDUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Interpretive Programs Assistant, the incumbent will greet visitors and inform them of the basic history of the facility and its exhibits, with an emphasis on gift shop operations, including the processing of sales and handling of cash and inventory. Provide public programming, including group visits and special events. Provide educational programming, which requires costumed interpretation. Additional duties include office operations including data entry, Roll of Honor enrollment processing, and answering telephone inquiries.
OPERATING NEEDS:
Candidate must be able to work with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a collaborative environment. Applicants must be available to work weekends and holidays. Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong customer service skills. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry, and internet research/website navigation. Scheduling flexibility. Strong team approach. POS experience preferred.
