POSITION: INTERPRETING COORDINATOR

CLASSIFICATION: PART-TIME, NON-EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: INTERPRETING DEPARTMENT MANAGER

LOCATION: ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI

SALARY: HOURLY WAGE COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

POSITION SUMMARY:

Deaf Empowerment Awareness Foundation, Inc. (DEAF, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that provides community support and 24/7 interpreting services for the deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind communities. This position is primarily responsible for the identification, scheduling, and placement of interpreters by performing the following duties, personally or alongside the department team. This position will work office hours as well as on-call.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Receive high volumes of incoming calls/inquiries relating to questions, concerns, and service quotes
• Reviews upcoming requests for services and works with service providers to ensure all requests are accurate and fulfilled
• Schedules and assigns work to service providers using approved scheduling software, while ensuring all essential information is documented
• Maintains scheduling software during/after business hours to ensure all assignments are acknowledged, accurately recorded, and sent to qualified service providers
• Uses scheduling software to manage database of service provider credentials and customer preferences
• Uses sound judgment in assignments to prevent service providers burnout
• Provides support and maintains high quality customer service to staff, service providers, and clients
• Communicates with staff/service providers through email, phone, and other forms of outreach
• Maintains strict consumer confidentiality and utmost professional standards
• Develops a strong network and relationships with customers, service providers, and deaf communities
• Maintains basic knowledge of legal requirements for Sign Language Interpreters to ensure compliance
• Informs management of any matters of concern regarding customer and interpreting situations
• Submits all required paperwork and maintains organized records
• Attends staff and department meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Interpreting Department Manager

Minimum Qualifications

• Associate degree (preferred) or relevant work experience
• Strong working knowledge- or willingness to learn- interpreter code of ethics
• Strong understanding of deaf culture and communication access
• Understand and support the mission of DEAF, Inc.
• Ability to use- or willing to learn- American Sign Language (ASL)
• Flexible schedule

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in Deaf Communication Studies or from Interpreter Training Program
• Experience in or knowledge of the interpreting industry
• Experience in scheduling and/or scheduling platforms
• Experience in non-profit organizations
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office
