Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Professional Medical Interpreter

  • Hours: 8:00 - 5:00, Monday - Friday

    Hiring Rate: $21.00 - $22.60/hour

    CHA requires employees to be up to date on all vaccines, including flu vaccine, and provides vaccination for staff. Vaccines must be up to date, or you must be willing to update them upon hire.

    This position will provide professional interpreting services for clients in clinical settings as a Spanish-language Interpreter.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Interpret from Spanish to English and English to Spanish
    • Assist department with administrative duties as time allows
    • Set up equipment and supplies for exams

    Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in related field required with professional interpreting experience strongly preferred. Or, high school or equivalent plus three years of professional interpreting experience required. Completion of Medical Interpreting course preferred. Must pass pre-hire interpreting skills assessment.

    Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:

    • Ability to interpret from Spanish to English and English to Spanish
    • Knowledge of medical terminology in both languages
    • Active listening skills
    • Notetaking skills
    • Thorough knowledge of standard office practices, procedures and office assistance techniques
    • Ability to put patients at ease when asking personal questions during patient interviews
