Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Scope: Admin Tech and Interpreter performs responsible secretarial duties that may include but are not limited to routing and mailing/faxing correspondence, maintaining confidential files and information, assembling and organizing program materials needed by ECI program staff, filing client chart documents, making up intake and assessment packets, answering the telephone, taking referrals etc. Duties include providing Spanish translations for ECI families in the home and community. Position will possess technical skills as described in the Core Competency Inventory. Elements of the job scope are performed in a manner that articulates the mission, vision and values of the organization.
Education/Licensure: Bi-lingual. High School education or equivalent. Prefer college and/or secretarial school training.
Experience/Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge and applied competency in good telephone skills, ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and verbal exchange with the public, clients and program personnel. Should have knowledge of computer applications related to word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of office and clerical procedures.
