Medical Interpreter conducts medical and general interpreting for staff, patients, and their families. Assesses and monitors patients' understanding of information conveyed. Being a Medical Interpreter advises medical personnel about any cultural issues that might impact patient care. Records and monitors interpretation activities according to hospital and department standards. Additionally, Medical Interpreter may be required to translate written documents. Requires familiarity with medical terminology. Requires fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. May require an associate degree or equivalent. May require Translation certificate. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Interpreter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Rocking Horse Community Health Center (RHCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides healthcare services to some of the area’s most vulnerable populations.
We are seeking Part Time Language Interpreters to provide accurate interpretation and translation of information in the medical office including registration, patient visits, billing discussions and any other need of patients who cannot speak or understand the English language. Performs the duties of a patient chaperone who assists the provider in the examination room during patient visits for translation. Language skills for this position are required for English, Spanish, or Haitian Creole.
RHCHC is located within walking distance of downtown Springfield which offers a wonderful variety of locally owned & operated eateries, bakeries & coffee shops. Education Requirements:
High School diploma or GED is required.
Certification/Licensure from approved Interpreter/Translator training program, or willingness and ability to take the exam.
