Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Being a Medical Laboratory Technician operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Additionally, Medical Laboratory Technician records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards. Requires an associate degree in laboratory technology, science or equivalent. Requires valid certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from ASCP or AMT. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Laboratory Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job.   • Role Purpose: Performs dynamic and static tests in accordance to government regulations, regulatory body specifications and manufacturing requirements. Dynamic tests are performed using free falling impact probes, accelerometers, load cells, displacement transducers and PC based data acquisition systems. Repairs electrical, mechanical, electromechanical equipment for conformance to established standards, and assists in formulating testing and work standards.

    Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

    ·      Plans sequence of testing and certification procedures for instruments (crash test dummies) and equipment.

    ·      Sets up standard and special purpose laboratory equipment to test, evaluate, and certify other instruments and test equipment.

    ·      Input data information and utilize data acquisition systems to perform system checks and data collection for ATDs.

    ·      Disassembles instruments and equipment and inspects components for defects.

    ·      Measures parts for conformity with specifications.

    ·      Aligns, repairs, replaces, and balances component parts.

    ·      Reassembles and certifies instruments and equipment.

    ·      Assists engineers in formulating test, calibration, repair, and evaluation plans and procedures to maintain precision accuracy of measuring, recording, and indicating instruments and equipment.

    ·      May be required to participate in a Company’s internal audit system as an internal auditor.

    ·      Other duties as assigned

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Internet software.
