Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of routine and specialized diagnostic medical lab tests as requested by healthcare staff according to established protocols and procedures. Prepares specimens for microscopic examination or testing procedures. Being a Medical Laboratory Technician operates automated laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Performs quality control and assurance procedures. Additionally, Medical Laboratory Technician records lab results in specified system. Follows all required privacy, safety, and biohazard procedures and standards. Requires an associate degree in laboratory technology, science or equivalent. Requires valid certification as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from ASCP or AMT. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Laboratory Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory tests and procedures, including but not limited to venipuncture, immunoassays, and vital sign measurements.
- Collect and process specimens, ensuring proper labeling and documentation.
- Conduct RNA extraction and other molecular biology techniques.
- Perform data management tasks, including inputting and analyzing test results.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies, ensuring proper functioning and availability.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Proficiency in venipuncture techniques and blood sampling procedures.
- Experience with immunoassays and other laboratory assays.
- Familiarity with CT scanning procedures.
- Ability to perform RNA extraction and other molecular biology techniques.
- Excellent data management skills, including accurate record keeping and analysis.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and provide clear instructions.
