Ensures the cataloging and circulation of materials are performed efficiently and correctly according to policies and standards. Being a Medical Librarian (MLS) creates training materials and delivers library instruction and education programs for physicians and other staff. Leads or contributes ideas for library strategic planning, quality initiatives, and the development of digital media and educational resources. Additionally, Medical Librarian (MLS) maintains current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The primary responsibility of the part-time Reference Librarian is to provide delivery of in person and electronic chat reference services to students and faculty at the Orange County Community College Libraries on both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses. Under general direction of the Library Director, the part-time Reference Librarian assures the level of reference services keeps pace with student needs, provides high quality resources, and promotes library services to the academic community and may be asked to teach library instruction sessions. The desired candidate will possess excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills, have the ability to work in a team environment and to handle multiple responsibilities. This is an in person position and will have hours on both the Middletown and Newburgh campuses.
Required: Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited academic institution; OR be within 6 months of obtaining a Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited academic institution; experience and knowledge of electronic information resources and technologies.
Preferred: Experience at the college level or public library setting; experience teaching library instruction or other library related sessions, ability to integrate technology into the library setting; Bilingual skills.
