Medical Librarian (MLS) provides guidance and assistance to users researching medical information using database searches, inter-library loans, and other resources. Ensures the cataloging and circulation of materials are performed efficiently and correctly according to policies and standards. Being a Medical Librarian (MLS) creates training materials and delivers library instruction and education programs for physicians and other staff. Leads or contributes ideas for library strategic planning, quality initiatives, and the development of digital media and educational resources. Additionally, Medical Librarian (MLS) maintains current knowledge of medical developments and scientific literature. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Medical Librarian (MLS) occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. - Instructs and helps students to develop information literacy skills.
- Collaborates with teams, departments, and/or individual teachers in planning and facilitating learning.
- Establishes short- and long-range goals for the operation and continued improvement of the media center.
- Arranges for access to information and materials outside the library media center and the school building through interlibrary loan, online searching of databases, and partnerships with local public libraries.
- Coordinates, instructs, and monitors library media personnel, parent volunteers, and/or student assistants to perform library media duties efficiently.
- Assists students with computer literacy skills.
- Counsels with and gives book selection guidance to students.
- Promotes an appreciation for literature and reading by means of displays, storytelling, guest speakers, book talks, and/or special events or activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
- Bachelor's Degree
- PA State Certification: Library Science PK-12 (6420)
- Related teaching experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to work in a positive and effective manner with students
- Completion of all mandated pre-employment documents and information
