Medical Policy Specialist researches and designs criteria to determine policy guidelines used in review of patient cases to ensure only medically appropriate services are reimbursed. Recommends a policy and process that ensure alignment with company guidelines and nationally accepted medical/coding standards. Being a Medical Policy Specialist establishes the proper codes to use for claims processing. Responds to questions from medical staff and communicates details about policy and guidelines. Additionally, Medical Policy Specialist requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Requires Registered Nurse RN. The Medical Policy Specialist gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Position Overview:

    This position is primarily responsible for coordinating all functions necessary for an efficient and productive flow of patients between check-in, treatment, and check-out. This position is a point-of-contact for all non-clinical patient service including managing the patient scheduling process; collecting, posting, and depositing patient payments; maintaining patient charts and electronic medical records; maintaining the front desk area; and providing outstanding customer service to our patients. Other duties may also be assigned.

    Job Duties:

    • Greet patients and check patient into EHR
    • Answer and direct incoming calls
    • Electronic Scheduling/Book appointments, coordinate referrals
    • Data Entry
    • Verify current personal and financial information
    • Verify insurance benefits/obtain authorizations as needed to process patient for services
    • Check patients out/Charge tickets
    • Collecting money over the counter
    • Faxing and Filing and perform any other duties assigned
    • Prepare medical charts for appointments and surgeries

    Job Requirements:

    • Must have 1 year of previous knowledge in a medical office environment.
    • Excellent telephone skills
    • Must be proficient in Word and Excel.
    • Previous experience and proficiency with EClinicalWorks required
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD10 coding.
    • Team player attitude, energetic, with a focus on excellent customer service.
    • Be flexible with your hours.
    • Attention to detail
    • Time Management skills
    • Be organized, able to multi-task in a fast paced environment

    Education/Credentials:

    • High school diploma required, Associates/Bachelors degree preferred

    Physical Demands:

Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for prolonged periods of time.
