Medical Records Coding Manager supervises and trains a team of medical coders to ensure medical records are coded with accuracy and completeness. Ensures medical records coding operations follow the latest guidelines and compliance standards. Being a Medical Records Coding Manager maintains required documentation and confidentiality of patient records. Implements processes for coding operations that support the needs of other healthcare partners. Additionally, Medical Records Coding Manager develops and maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest ICD and CPT coding versions and ensures coders receive updates and training on classification or guideline changes. Is a certified medical coder and the exact type of coding certification may vary based on the clinical setting or a medical specialty focus. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Depending on the setting typically requires the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. May additionally have the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Medical Records Coding Manager supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Medical Records Coding Manager typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Thorough knowledge of functional area and department processes.     MUST HAVE WORKED IN MEDICAL RECORDS

    Type: Full-time

    Reports To: Director of Nursing

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in organizing, planning and directing the medical records department in accordance with established policies and procedures.
    • Retrieve resident records (manually/electronically). Deliver as necessary.
    • Files information such as nurses’ notes, resident assessments, progress notes, laboratory reports, x-ray results, correspondence, etc., into resident charts.
    • Ensure incomplete records/charts are returned to appropriate departments or personnel for correction.
    • Assist in developing procedures to ensure resident records are properly completed, assembled, coded, signed, indexed, etc., before filing.
    • Establish a procedure to ensure resident charts/records do not leave the medical records room except as authorized in our policies and procedures.
    • Maintain a record of authorized information released from charts/records, i.e., type information, name of recipient, date, department, etc.
    • Abstract information from records as authorized/required for insurance companies, Medicare, VA, etc. in accordance with current Privacy Rules.
    • Answer telephone inquiries concerning medical records function.
    • Prepare written correspondence as necessary.
    • Retrieve medical records when requested by authorized personnel (i.e., physicians, nurses, government agencies and personnel, etc.)
    • Assure that medical records taken from the department are signed out and signed in upon return to the department.
    • File active and inactive records in accordance with established policies.
    • Perform secretarial duties for the committees of the facility as directed.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information including protected health information.
    • Serves as HIPPA Officer for facility
    • Assist MDS Coordinator in collecting M.D. signatures for percent for Medicare upon admission and re-admission
    • Works closely with billing-therapy-to assume ICD-9- coding is complete
    • Provides resident information to the business office regarding Medicare part A and B billing and 70% veterans.
    • Participates in U.R. meeting department Head Meetings, and Quality Assurance Committee
    • Run errands that may include travel to hospitals, physician offices, banks, and post office
    • Maintains current monthly physician visit data

    Qualifications:

    • Must possess, as a minimum a high school diploma or GED.
    • Must have the ability to set priorities, organize workload, and function independently
    • Knowledgeable of medical terminology.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $14.94 - $19.57 per hour
