The primary purpose of the Medical Record Technician (Release of Information) position is foster a high level of customer service by assisting patients and their families, caregivers, outside auditors, community physicians, external agencies, and hospital personnel and ensuring they receive appropriate, timely and complete health information in response to written, phone, fax, email and/or in-person requests. Answers inquiries for medical record information in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, and according to HIPAA standards.
High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in medical records related work. Must be able to analyze medical records, and read doctor's handwriting. Data entry, typing, use of e-mail applications required. Must be able to speak and read English and have good oral and written communication skills. Must be detail-oriented, accurate and organized. Must demonstrate professionalism, tact, and diplomacy. Must be proficient at using various hardware and software applications.
