Develops policies and procedures and conducts continuous improvement activities to ensure effective and compliant record management. MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN (OA/SURETY)

  • Duties

    • Reviewing medical records for continuing quality improvement activities for the Occupational Health program to include the enrollment into the Biological or Chemical surety programs.
    • Entering data into medical record systems.
    • Performing quality improvement activities in support of institution-wide medical documentation concerns to include initiating health records for all newly enrolled personnel.
    • Performing clinical pertinence review on randomly selected records against specified criteria.
    • Performing qualitative analysis to ensure accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of recorded data.
    • Establishing medical records as prescribed by governing regulations.
    • Maintaining record accountability; assuring adequate controls are taken to prevent the loss of records or unauthorized access, following-up on lost record inventory, retirement and prompt filing of corresponding medical documents.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) entering data into medical record systems; 2) performing quality improvement activities in support of institution-wide medical documentation concerns to include initiating health records for all newly enrolled personnel; 3) reviewing records for current physicals, current administrative data against corresponding personnel records and other designated regulatory data.

    Qualified Typist: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
