Medical Records Research Coordinator is responsible for organizing and overseeing the record keeping activities pertaining to releasing and retrieving medical records for research projects. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Health Information Coordinator, C.N.A. plans and maintains the medical record systems for the facility in accordance with state and federal regulations as well as professional standards of practice as well as organization and facility policies and procedures to ensure complete, timely, and accurate medical records. The Health Information Coordinator C.N.A., is responsible for managing all aspects of the patients’ medical record from admission to discharge.
Health Information Coordinator, C.N.A. (Medical Records clerk) Responsibilities • Assists in organizing, planning, and directing the medical records department in accordance with established policies and procedures. • Promotes guidelines for documenting, storing, and retrieving information. • Stores documentation safely and in compliance with established policies and regulations. Ensures documents are not placed in areas where they create fire hazards or are at risk of exposure. Organizes all documents that will be taken off site and retains documentation of such.
Education/Qualifications
• Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or GED; Associates degree in Medical Record Technology, Health Information, Healthcare Administration, or related degree preferred.
• Completion of classes in medical terminology preferred; If no experience, course must be completed within 180 days of employment.
• Knowledge of HIPPA privacy and security regulations preferred. A working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, coding, indexing, etc., preferred but not required.
• Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. • Must be organized, detail conscious and accurate.
• Must be tactful, but persistent in the performance of duties. • Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, physician offices, legal staff, and support agencies.
• Successful completion of State Approved Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program; Name must appear on State Registry as Nurse Aide in good standing; ability to communicate with residents and nursing staff.
• Persons who have been found guilty of abuse, neglect, exploitation, or mistreatment or misappropriation of property by a court of law; or who has a finding in the State nurse aide registry concerning abuse, neglect, exploitation, mistreatment of residents or misappropriation of resident property, or has had a disciplinary action in effect taken against his/her professional license or certification are not eligible for employment in this position.
Experience
• One (1) year of previous experience in medical records/health information management preferred. • Previous office experience preferred.
• Processes medical documents, insurance, and correspondence requests in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as professional standards of practice and organization and facility policies and procedures.
