Performs quality audits of work. Additionally, Medical Records Technician maintains and up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation requirements. Does not require a medical coding certification. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. The person in this position is responsible for scanning documents into patient electronic health records (EHR) on a daily basis; opening, closing, and maintaining EHRs; ensuring all required documentation is scanned into the EHR prior to daily scheduled patient appointments; preparing requests for release of protected health information (PHI) within time constraints; maintaining the security of the patient records; serving as a member of the Clinical Records Committee; supervising one medical records clerk; providing back-up staff support for MH receptionists at AMH and Children’s MH clinics when needed; general clerical duties and works under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer. Must be familiar with HIPAA rules governing the receipt and disclosure of protected health information.
