The role of the medical records clerk is to process requests for information by reproducing medical records and providing medical information to appropriate parties in a timely manner. The medical records clerk will work within the scope of his/her job description using the demonstrated competencies consistent with the role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines for release of protected health information.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively with patients, providers, coworkers, and the general public.
• Ability to perform job duties in an effective and timely manner.
• Ability to function with minimal supervision.
• Ability to organize and use time and resources effectively.
• Ability to accurately record and input data in an EHR system and other overlay systems.
• Ability to monitor and maintain electronic incoming files for all clinic locations.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions timely and accurately.
• Competent in both oral and written English.
• Ability to provide effective customer service within the work environment.
• Ability to multitask and work with interruptions.
• Ability to keep patient and staff information confidential.
• Ability to function as an effective and productive team member.
• Ability to travel to other sites, if needed.
• Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during the workday.

Qualifications/Education Requirements

To qualify for this position, the candidate will be a graduate of an accredited high school or in receipt of a GED certificate; medical office or similar practice experience required. Candidate must be able to demonstrate a caring and positive attitude. Must be self-directed, motivated and demonstrate the ability to work independently and within a team.
