Assigns required DRG (diagnosis-related grouping) codes. Being a Medical Records Technician works with coding databases and software to input and maintain data according to standard procedures. Performs quality audits of work. Additionally, Medical Records Technician maintains and up-to-date knowledge of coding and documentation requirements. Does not require a medical coding certification. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) assures that care is delivered to all patients within established legal, ethical, laboratory and hospital guidelines. They will be responsible for have excellent communication skills and exhibit professional behavior at all times. Institute appropriate interventions according to department policy and procedure, facilitate patient flow and communicate relevant information to the appropriate health care providers, the patient and the family. Facilitate use of the appropriate resources for support. Perform all laboratory procedure with accuracy, competently with assurance that they have provided for support documentation of the appropriate education and experience and have received the appropriate training for the type and complexity of testing performed. MINIMUM QUALLIFICATIONS:
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY:
Medical Technician (MLT) Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent is preferred.
