Our Headquarters office is seeking a Medical Records Technician to manage the exchange of medical records with other healthcare entities. If you are a caring, dedicated professional who possesses strong communication skills and a true desire to help others, this is the position for you!
The Role
In this role, you will interact with members and families, referral sources, BLP counselors and clinicians, and members of the local healthcare community. You will be a resource for members and community partners by assisting members in completing a valid Release of Information. Your important work will allow members to receive quality care in their communities to make a better life within reach.
What you will do
- Demonstrating and communicating the core values of Better Life Partners; Love, Act, Partner, Advocate, and Grow
- Working with an Electronic Health Record, e-faxing system, and electronic mail
- Sending medical records to outside entities (hospitals, doctor’s offices, etc.) by member’s Release of Information (“ROI”) and Better Life Partners’ standards working closely with the head of compliance and quality
- Ensuring that requests from insurance companies or auditors are completed within the required timeframe and have been appropriately reviewed
- Receiving, sorting, and filing medical records in the appropriate member record
- Responding to outside entities who send invalid ROIs
- Tracking all medical record requests including date of receipt, information sent, and date of sending
- Working with our other teams on individual issues that may arise with our members
- Reviewing and updating member and care provider requests within our proprietary EMR system
- Training current clinical staff on proper completion of ROIs and handling of records.
You are a good fit if you have
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
- Experience in a medical records department, familiarity with HIPAA and federal confidentiality rules (42 CFR Part 2) required
- Must have at least one year of experience working with electronic medical records and release of information.
- Must have experience working with Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, etc.)
- Passion for working in the healthcare field; previous experience working with individuals diagnosed with substance use disorders is a plus
- Willingness and eagerness to learn, be flexible, and assist office staff as needed
- Excellent time management and strong attention to detail
- Exceptionally strong work ethic
- Team player with an “all hands on deck” attitude, organized/able to multitask
- Must have proven experience working effectively in a remote work environment
It will also be great if you have
- Bilingual ability is a plus but not required
This is a hybrid position. At least 2 days weekly or one week per month, you’ll work from our shared workspaces in Short Hills, NJ, Boston, MA, or Manchester, NH. When not in the shared workspaces, you’ll work from home.
Work-from-home requirements
- Must have internet service with minimum upload/download ability.
- The company will provide equipment (laptop, monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset) plus a remote work stipend.
- Must have a quiet space to speak to members with minimal background noise.
- Must understand the importance of protected health information and ensure any data/information is not visible to others.
This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The starting salary range for this position is $19.66 – 25.53 per hour.
