Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Basic Function: Serve as a member of the Student Records Office team as the first point of contact for customers seeking assistance in the Records Office. Prepare all graduation correspondence and processing of applications. Responsible for processing transcripts, maintaining accurate student records, telephone calls, and other various student requests. Maintain Records Office hours from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the academic year. Otherwise, 7:45 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. on Fridays and during summer and academic breaks.
Salary & Benefits: $15.72 hourly in accordance with the salary schedule for Office Clerical. Benefits package includes Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance; eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; paid vacation and sick leave; and a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans.
Qualifications: A minimum of one year of specialized post-secondary education or a minimum of one year of related work experience. Ability to work and organize assigned tasks efficiently and accurately in an atmosphere of frequent interruption. Ability to perform diversified office clerical functions including keyboarding (50-60 wpm with accuracy), filing, and operating office equipment; fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required. Have efficient and cordial telephone/receptionist skills, as well as demonstrated ability to effectively and cooperatively work with people in a team effort and easily interact with a variety of people. Must maintain a high level of integrity due to the confidentiality of the work.
