Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation by physicians and other medical practitioners pertaining to patients assessment, diagnostics, therapy, and other medical reports. Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create files for a new admissions.
• Ensure medical records are complete, assembled in standard order, and filed appropriately.
• Locate, sign out, and deliver medical records and follow-up to ensure they are returned.
• Compile statistical data such as admissions, discharges, deaths, births, and types of treatment given.
• Operate a computer to enter and retrieve data, type correspondence and produce reports.
• Restrict access to resident medical records to those staff members with a valid requirement.
• Maintain, retain, and archive files in accordance with the company’s policy and State and Federal regulations.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
• LPN license in good standing
• One year experience working in a healthcare setting.
