Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation by physicians and other medical practitioners pertaining to patients assessment, diagnostics, therapy, and other medical reports. Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Performs duties which include, but are not limited to, monitoring transcribed reports, maintains History & Physical and Operative Report Study, supports assigned Performance Improvement Indicators, resolves equipment problems, and acts as a positive representative handling communications with physicians, nurses, staff and all other personnel effectively.
Coordinates and provides transcription support to ensure effective operations: Monitors workflow and turn-round times, expedites delivery of Stat reports with the external transcription service. Verifies that voice dictation and ADT feed are functional 99.9% of the time. Works as a liaison between the external transcription service and hospital medical staff, addressing any issues.
Must have at least 2 years previous medical record transcription experience. Accurate typing at a minimum of 25-35 words per minute. Ability to problem-solving and possess analytical skills. Must possess a good working knowledge of medical terminology and MS Office applications. Must have effective communications with physicians, nurses, and staff to ensure satisfactory performance of work activities. Must demonstrate good clerical knowledge and abilities, being extremely accurate and detail oriented. Must be able to efficiently perform work activities and multi-task, when subjected to high volume work load. Must be able to perform work activities with minimal supervision and be able to direct others. Must be able to meet expected daily productivity and quality standards, as an experienced transcription coordinator.
