Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation by physicians and other medical practitioners pertaining to patients assessment, diagnostics, therapy, and other medical reports. Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Perform assigned duties according to established procedures.
    • Accurate and efficient transcription of spoken dictation into pathology reports, including Hematopathology, Surgical Pathology, and Consultation reports.
    • Data entry of macroscopic description data into pathology reports from laboratory worksheets.
    • Meet pathologist expectations regarding terminology, formatting, and prioritization.
    • Prepare, report, confirm billing, and monitor pending cases sent for referral lab testing.
    • Communicate with reference laboratories for resolution of reporting errors/delays.
    • Monitor, update, and resolve transcription and sendout reporting issues via internal documentation application.
    • Prepare sendout slides and reports for return to client.
    • Review transcribed documents for completeness and accuracy.
    • Identify potential issues and communicate with team and pathologists to meet expectations for quality, turnaround time, and patient care.
    • Conform to all company policies and maintain a business-like, professional attitude at all times.
    • Help maintain a safe working environment by adherence to company safety policies and procedures. 
    • Strict adherence to defined standards of patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA).
    • Complies with all the requirements set forth in the Compliance program and cooperates with management as it endeavors to carry out the objectives of the Compliance program.
    • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Demonstrated experience in transcribing medical documents with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomic pathology, and laboratory test information.
    • Ability to comprehend and transcribe different accents.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Experience using transcription equipment and dictation software applications.
    • Experience using medical documentation software applications.
    • Excellent command of the English language, grammar, and punctuation.
    • Ability to proofread, edit, and format medical documents.
    • Ability to work independently and efficiently under time and volume constraints.
    • Competency with Microsoft office applications.

    Education and Experience:

    • 2-3 years of experience as a Medical Transcriptionist, pathology experience desirable.
    • Successful completion of a Medical Transcription education/certificate program with 1 year experience.
