Medical Records Transcriptionist transcribes medical dictation by physicians and other medical practitioners pertaining to patients assessment, diagnostics, therapy, and other medical reports. Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. The Medical Records Coordinator is responsible for the overall maintenance of medical records, to include ensuring each record is properly labeled, complete, organized, and controlled. Includes Release of Information, Patient Information Logs, Medicare Documentation, Death Reporting & Confidentiality.
Experience with medical records - to include 1-3 years of clinical experience in an office setting - is required. Applicant must possess above average communication skills, the ability to follow directions and type at least 40 wpm, excellent organizational skills, and high emotional intelligence. Must exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 25 pounds frequently.
