Understands medical terminology and the use of transcription software and equipment. Being a Medical Records Transcriptionist requires a high school diploma. May require Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS). Additionally, Medical Records Transcriptionist typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Records Transcriptionist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Position/Responsibilities
· Keeping abreast of new regulations enacted by Medicare, Medicaid and insurance companies.
· Maintain and file patient charts.
· Ensure the quality of the patient’s medical record by verifying the accuracy and proper entry into the electronic health record system.
· Compile data and information for reports.
· Photocopy records and documents for billing.
· Respond to requests for medical records.
· Answers and directs telephone calls.
· Maintain confidentiality.
· Exert physical effort while maintaining and distributing files; stooping and kneeling
Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in health information management (preferred)
· Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Word and Excel.
· 2 years’ experience in medical records in a skilled nursing facility (preferred)
· Point Click Care experience (preferred)
