Medical Scribe acts as an assistant during the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Documents and gathers information during the treatment process. Being a Medical Scribe organizes healthcare data to provide better service and efficiency of clinical care. Typically requires an associate degree. Additionally, Medical Scribe may require certification as a Medical Scribe by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM). Typically reports to a physician. The Medical Scribe works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. The medical scribe is to assist the physician by accurately documenting the physician's encounter with the patient as they are being performed. Anticipate physician needs to facilitate the flow of the clinic practice. Support the physician with other department specific duties.
Education and Work Experience:
1. One or two years of experience in the health care field, OR
2. Any similar combination of education and experience.
OR
1. Licensed allied health professional RN, LPN, RMA, CMA, or certified/registered technician such as orthopedic, surgical, ophthalmic, pharmacy or
2. Medical assisting with 2 years or more nursing experience or
3. Associate degree or higher degree in an associated field of study
4. Prior experience scribing in a medical practice setting preferred, but not required.
