    Job Summary:
    The Medical Scribe is responsible for recording an Orthopaedic Surgeon’s interactions with patients and assisting with clerical duties related to medical documentation. This position requires that the Scribe be a part of all patient visits with the physician, documenting any information pertaining to the patient’s encounter with the physician.

    Responsibilities:

    • Preparing and assembling medical record documentation/charts for the physician.
    • Taking notes during patient visits and documenting them in our Electronic Medical Records system.
    • Accompanying physician during patient visits.
    • Documenting physician-dictated patient history, physical examination findings, etc. as directed by physician.
    • Working closely with the physician to complete and submit medical records.
    • Communicating with patients and physicians professionally.
    • Preparing voice recordings for transcriptions and reviewing medical documents for errors, typos, and inconsistencies.

    Skills/Abilities:

    • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by a physician in a legible and clear manner, following all local, state, and federal guidelines for documentation.
    • Must demonstrate an ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with governing HIPAA regulations.
    • Must demonstrate organizational ability to maintain and coordinate multiple charts and documentation related to patient care.
    • Responsive to improvement opportunities in a positive manner.
    • Fast learner.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organization, multitasking, and attention to detail

    Education and Experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Medical terminology knowledge required.
    • Proficient in computer systems.
    • Either a current college student on a healthcare pathway (nursing, PA school, etc.) and/or a Certified Medical Assistant with Scribe experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15-20 pounds at a time.
    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
