Additionally, Medical Scribe may require certification as a Medical Scribe by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM). Typically reports to a physician. The Medical Scribe works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Job Summary
The Scribe accompanies the physician into the patient exam room in order to transcribe a history, physical exam, patient instructions, disposition, and document accurately the physician's encounter with the patient and others present. Has basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, surgery, diagnostic tests, pharmacology and the various medical specialties. Displays professional appearance and conduct while promoting an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of the team approach to patient care and documentation. Knowledge of organizational policies, and computer applications. Proficiently navigates the electronic medical record. Excellent time management, organization and communication skills (written and verbal) are required. Demonstrates an ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with governing regulations.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Completion of a medical terminology course or one year medical terminology experience in a clinical setting preferred.
