    This opening is from Monday-Friday from 8:00am-5:00 pm, but depending on the physician’s schedule, the hours will vary, starting as early as 7:00 am or working as late as 6:00 pm. Although not typically on the same day.

    Medical Scribe Responsibilities:

    Job Summary
    Assist our physician(s) throughout their clinic shift, primarily with documentation. The primary goal of a scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician(s) for whom they are working. The scribe allows the doctor to focus on what is most important, our patients.

    Essential Functions

    • Must comply with HIPAA confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
    • Must be able to transcribe recorded dictation or edit documents prepared through voice recognition including medical records, medical reports, letters or other materials rapidly and with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Must be able to enter data into our software systems.
    • Must be able to handwrite notes for future data entry as needed.
    • Anticipates physician needs and performs these tasks within the scope of a non-clinician to facilitate the flow of the clinic.
    • Acts discreetly, tactfully, and modestly in performance of duties so as not to be a distraction to patient care.
    • Clinical assignment to assist physicians with data entry; in-room, on-demand transcription of a physical exam, diagnosis, plan, notes, etc. Inputs doctor’s orders and prescriptions.
    • Enters billing information in a timely manner per physician’s instruction, typically at time of patient encounter.
    • Transcribes recorded dictation of records and letters and other material, including special reports for physicians and physician extenders in a timely manner with a high degree of accuracy.
    • Checks documents for errors including dates and format; proofs and faxes letters to referring physicians from our software.
    • Assists with patient service responsibilities as assigned which may include assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, relaying instructions to patients/families, providing pertinent information.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Physical/Mental Demands

    • Regularly required to stand, sit, and walk at a moderate pace.
    • Must be able to use hands to type and write with a pen.
    • Must be able to reach with hands and arms.
    • Must be able to hear adequately to perform transcripts.
    • Must be able to speak to communicate with physician(s), patient(s), and family members.
    • Must be able to read printed documents and computer information.
    • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements (specifically keyboarding and writing).
    • Must be able to work with computer screens for long periods.
    • Must be able to tolerate occasional stresses related to workload, physician(s), and patient(s) demand.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Must be proficient in typing, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and oral communication.
    • Must be able to listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear and concise fashion. Excellent English composition.
    • Handwriting must be clear and legible. Must be able to type words and numbers quickly and accurately.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and possess interpersonal skills in order to establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.
    • Understanding medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments to the extent required to understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports as well as translate medical abbreviations into their expanded forms. Must maintain knowledge of clinic policies and procedures as related to the job.
    • Comprehension of ICD-10 and CPT coding elements.
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to apply logic and draw conclusions based on knowledge. Have the ability to refer to reference materials to solve problems.
    • Ability to learn and use all functions of electronic medical records and transcription software.
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word to prepare correspondence, medical reports, and other documents.
    • Must be able to use the internet and intranet to access schedules, and research information.
    • Must exercise good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and be self-motivated.
    • Must be adaptable and versatile in performing multiple tasks.

    Working Conditions

    • Primarily clinical office setting.
    • Standing, sitting, walking for up to 8 or more hours/day.
    • Able to work in front of a laptop, desktop for long periods of time.
    • Manual dexterity using a computer keyboard.
    • Performs complex tasks requiring independent knowledge and its application to non-routine situations.
    • Occasional stress related to dealing with dissatisfied patients and/or emergency situations.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements (specifically keyboarding and writing).

    Standard Qualifications

    Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: Must have a minimum of a high school diploma. A college degree, or at least some related college courses, is preferred. Computer and typing skills with the ability to type 60 wpm with a high degree of accuracy. Experience with medical terminology is preferred.
