Medical Scribe acts as an assistant during the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Documents and gathers information during the treatment process. Being a Medical Scribe organizes healthcare data to provide better service and efficiency of clinical care. Typically requires an associate degree. Additionally, Medical Scribe may require certification as a Medical Scribe by the American College of Clinical Information Managers (ACCIM). Typically reports to a physician. The Medical Scribe works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Provide patient care as needed in a clinic environment. Organizes a safe, clean setting for patients. Utilizes appropriate equipment and resources and assists Medical Staff in the provision of clinic services and care. Will accompany physician during examinations and transcribe a history and physical record. List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the provider. Transcribe all orders including lab and radiology tests, medications, etc. Retrieve and return phone messages.
High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer Medical Assistant certificate and one year experience as a MA. Must have the ability to record patient exam details as transcribed by the physician. Must be computer proficient and be familiar with medical terminology. Must be organized, self-directed, task oriented and have good phone etiquette.
