Medical Secretary provides secretarial support to clinical staff. Performs various secretarial and clerical duties, such as typing reports and correspondence, transcribing written notes, maintaining records and files, answering phones, and arranging clinician schedules. Being a Medical Secretary may be responsible for entering clinician charges into medical billing system. Requires knowledge of medical terms and vocabulary. Additionally, Medical Secretary requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Medical Secretary works under moderate supervision. Responsibilities:
- Greet and check-in patients, ensuring a positive and welcoming experience
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments, both in person and over the phone
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient information and medical history
- Assist with medical billing and insurance claims processing
- Coordinate referrals to specialists and follow-up appointments
- Manage front desk operations, including answering phone calls, responding to inquiries, and directing visitors
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure smooth workflow and efficient patient care
- Process medical records requests, reminder notifications, and additional mailings.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a medical office or similar healthcare setting
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Medent
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Familiarity with medical scheduling processes and appointment management
- Understanding of insurance verification and billing procedures
