Medical Social Worker (BSW) provides social work services to hospital patients and their families. Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems related to hospitalization. Being a Medical Social Worker (BSW) participates as a member of multi-disciplinary team and may assist patients in treatment planning. May contribute to the formulation of discharge plans. Additionally, Medical Social Worker (BSW) requires a bachelor's degree of social work. Typically reports to a manager.     Evaluation and assessment of patient needs for discharge planning assistance, planning and coordination of patient programs, and acting as a liaison between the patient, hospital, physician and community in the post acute venue with appropriate linkage of community services/resources. Demonstrates behavior, autonomy and decision making consistent with the values and ethical guidelines of the hospital as well as the professional code of ethics. Performs under minimal supervision.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from an accredited undergraduate program of Social Work.

    • Texas Baccalaureate Social Worker License - Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners upon hire. Or

    • New Mexico Baccalaureate Social Worker License - New Mexico Board of Social Work Examiners upon hire.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Training within the medical venue with social services.

    • Completion of 400 hour practicum in undergraduate program within a medical venue.

    • Experience in a hospital or health care setting.
