Medical Social Worker (MSW) provides social work services to hospital patients and their families. Counsels and provides crisis intervention for patients, including assessment and treatment of emotional and behavioral problems related to hospitalization. Being a Medical Social Worker (MSW) participates as a member of multi-disciplinary team and may assist patients in treatment planning. May contribute to the formulation of discharge plans. Additionally, Medical Social Worker (MSW) may take a leadership role on more complex cases. Requires a master's degree of social work. Typically reports to a manager. POSITION SUMMARY
Accountable for coordinating, developing, executing, monitoring and evaluation of Social Service activities. Social Work activities encompass: accurately assessing patient/family psychosocial/socioeconomic needs and coordinating the appropriate community resource to ensure timely care, compliance with regulatory requirements/standards and effective/efficient use of hospital resources. Works in collaborative practice with the physician and other members of the health care team to meet patient-specific and age-related patient needs, linking cost resource management and quality to patient care. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of Social Work.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Ability to work autonomously and make independent judgments.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 2 years acute care experience
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License - LBSW
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: CCM, ACM
REQUIRED COURSES/ COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR ) BLS-obtained through approved American Heart Association Training Center
