NorthStar Foundation focuses on the critical, unmet needs of North Omaha’s young men, beginning in third grade, with the goal of helping them grow into healthy, educated, employed contributors to the community. NorthStar is the only single sex, male afterschool program in Greater Omaha. NorthStar serves 3rd – 12th grade boys.
Job Summary NorthStar is seeking a team player with an optimistic outlook to promote and enhance NorthStar's overall mission by providing services that strengthen home, school and community partnerships and alleviate barriers to learning. The Social Worker is a front line, youth builder role within the organization and will report to the Director of Program Growth.
Essential Job Requirements include the following:
Empower students, families and NorthStar personnel to access available resources to fully develop each student's potential.
Use knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to identify source of conflict for students and intervene for student’s success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, home visits, conflict resolution, individual and group counseling, drug and alcohol abuse counseling, consultation, program development, dropout prevention and coordinator of school and community services.
Effectively plan, implement, and evaluate programs that promite student and family success.
Coordinate access to services provided by outside agencies to students within the educational setting.
General Job Duties:
Support Family Engagement nights with community partners and outreach efforts.
Tracking transition periods for students from grade levels to school changes.
Manage and oversee student external related support, such as hygiene kits, donated holiday meals, donated student gifts, etc.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Master’s degree in Social Work required.
Must have a valid NE License with endorsements in the area of Master Social Work and Mental Health Practitioner.
Experience working in a community social services agency, clinical background and/or urban education history highly desired/preferred.
Leadership and organizational qualities, which include the ability to facilitate teams, communicate collaboratively, train and lead others, and coordinate data.
This is a 2-year grant funded position.
Salary Range: From $55,000/year
Occasional night and weekend hours may be required based on program needs.
