ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton is a 25-bed critical access hospital which provides programs and services to 110,000 people in 6 counties. Position Summary
The Lead Medical Staff Specialist serves as the primary resource for the MSS staff related to credentialing, recredentialing, privileging and expirables maintenance of our provider work force. This person also acts in the stead of the department administrator for regulatory survey preparation and support for survey interviews.
Responsibilities
1. Directs the medical staff credentialing and privileging workflow including: ensure appropriate primary source verification services not already provided by the CVO for medical staff and advance level practitioners upon initial appointment and reappointment.
2. Coordinates activities for medical staff promotions and providers' special procedure requests by providing primary source verification and clinical competency evaluation.
3. Oversee the organization and maintenance of the permanent credentials file for all practitioners, verification of maintenance of current license, DEA, and insurance for all practitioners, verification of VMC work history, collection of NPI numbers and communication of same. Ensure accurte maintenance of the CACTUS credentialing data base for VMC providers.
4. Coordinates and Oversee throughput of credentialing applications, assigning applications to medical staff specialists based on workload. Provide support to staff in credentialing aspects.
5. Ensure appropriate preparation of agendas and other correspondence for Credentials Committee meetings, Executive Committee, and Board of Trustees and update the CACTUS database to reflect these actions.
6. Manage preparation and organization of documents for regulatory surveys in the absence of the Administrator.
7. Oversee orientation for new providers; coordinate orientation components with employee department and or other MAO departments. Facilitate the issuance of parking permits, ID badges and scrub access for new providers. Provide support to other MSS specialists who orient providers.
8. Coordinate IT access requests for new providers, facilitate revisions to providers' profiles in the EHR and on the intranet. Fulfill requests for CACTUS ad hoc reports and ensure apporpriate management of the expiration reports for VMC.
9. Triage and track provider questions and concerns as needed.
10. Maintain working relationships with administrative personnel, medical staff leadership and private practice office staff.
