Tracks license and certification expirations for medical staff to ensure timely renewals. Additionally, Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist handles and resolves inquiries regarding credentialing information, process, or status. Requires a high school diploma. May require Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS). Typically reports to a supervisor. The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Duties will include, but not limited to, scheduling of incoming referrals, sending out procedure intakes, preparation/mailing out procedure letters, scheduling post-hospital, post tec, and recheck appointments. Qualified applicants will have great attention to detail, customer service skills and be able to communicate professionally and effectively with providers, nurses, and patients.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Schedules appointments with RCMC providers at the request of other RCMC providers.
    • When requested helps facilitate appointments with providers outside of RCMC.
    • Schedules ancillary appointments within the RCMC organization when appropriate.
    • Compiles medical records information necessary for providers that patients are being referred to.
    • Follows up with patients on appointment times and other necessary information.
    • Facilitate prior authorizations when necessary, getting appropriate information to the prior authorization nurse, or completely the authorizations themselves.
    • Regularly updates RCMC providers about services provided within RCMC. Actively promote services within our facility to other in house providers.
    • Ensures brochures regarding services provided within RCMC are adequately stocked in all departments.
    • Sends all referral documents electronically to providers, when applicable in order to meet Meaningful Use criteria.
    • Uses customer service principles and techniques to deal with patients calmly and pleasantly.
    • Maintains patient confidentiality.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    EDUCATION:  High school diploma or GED.

     

    EXPERIENCE:  One year of health care organization experience.


    ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Medical office with exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions related to the clinic setting.

     

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Daily activity is 90 percent sitting and 10 percent walking or standing with repetitive data entry. Employee must have the ability to manage the demands of many providers at once with professionalism and a good attitude.
